Everyone loves the Berry challenges!

Rick,
I just wanted to take the time to let you know how wonderful our family have found the “Berry Challenges.”

My son Jacob came home at the start of the year with a list of  “Berry Challenges”.  Once he explained how it worked he was so eager to get started.

He began with the basics using various machines in the house i.e. DVD player, TV, microwave etc.  Then progressing to cooking different meals for the family.  He became so excited about the challenges; he took up the badge for keeping his room tidy for two weeks. (These were two great weeks, long gone now).

He has done a lot of badges involving trying new things, self confidence, and he is actually learning
things without knowing he is learning. It’s amazing! We spend as much "family time" together as we can, but with work, school, and general life interrupting plans, we don’t spend as much time as we should , so for Jacob to complete some of the badges we had to be all together to complete the badge correctly.

Sometimes you simply forget just how much fun and laughter can come from playing a board game together.  Rick should be commended for taking the time to bring this idea to life, It has been amazing to see my son so excited to try new things, learn new skills, also learn the basic life skills you need to become an adult.

Anything that can teach a child life skills, self confidence, responsibility, a true sense of self worth, and bring families closer together can only be a great thing.  I honestly believe this concept should be incorporated in every class. If every child can develop a sense of responsibility and the confidence the way my son has, perhaps the future for our kids may not be so frightening.

I take my hat off to Rick, this concept has blown my mind and exceeded my expectations and my happier and closer family thank you.

Nick Bradley.

Bringing families together

Dear Rick,

I am writing to you for two reasons.  Firstly, to congratulate you for showing enterprise toward your students in setting them  goals to be achieved within their family circle.  Secondly, to comment on Tyler’s response as his grandparents (his Poppa and Nana” as we are addressed by him) to the challenge.

Last Sunday, Tyler’s parents, Ken and Sarah Wolter, invited us to an evening meal which Tyler was preparing.  It was a 3-course meal: an entrée of pasta which was flavoured with ham etc, then a main course of stuffed chicken breast served with thin slices of roast potato and young spinach leaves.

The sweet was a small quarter of pancake, on which were thin slices of apple (I think?) and served with cream.  The portions were just right so that there was no feeling of ‘overeating’.
Tyler then asked both June and I, separately, ten questions to make us ‘revisit our past.  We really enjoyed that!

So, I thought you should know that the whole thing was received with approbation by us.

Thank You!
Sincerely,

Kenneth & June Godwin.
